Filanda n.18's Margilan Vest pays homage to the art of Uzbek ikat weaving in Margilan, Uzbekistan. The multicolour vest is made of silk and cotton ikat and features a moiré finish that gives the fabric a sophisticated shimmering effect. It's designed with a copper-tone centre zipper, two front facing patch pockets and a small hook below the left pocket that adds a casual touch to the elegant silk top.
In the ikat making process, the threads are meticulously marked according to pre-set patterns. The different sections are then tie-dyed according to the precise patterns. The threads are then handwoven on a four- or six-shaft treadle loom. The fabric's irregularities reflect the handmade nature of the entire process and are part of the textile's beauty.
